As part of our commitment to sun protection, Shelta places a major emphasis on advising consumers our shade products UPF ratings. Shelta takes care to select high quality dense fabrics which look great, as well as save your skin.

It’s vital for shade product users to understand that they could receive many times more UV from sunlight reflected under the umbrella from sand, water and other surfaces – than will be transmitted through the umbrella. The only remedy for this is shade clothing and sunscreen.

Umbrellas and beach shelters can be a hazard on the beach if not properly anchored. Do not use beach umbrellas in windy or gusty conditions. Bury the lower pole to the recommended depth and close the umbrella if left unattended. Be aware of the people around you when opening and closing umbrellas and beach shelters.

When not in use, store your umbrella or shelter in a dry, shaded location. Should the frame or fabric become coated with salt spray, rinse well with fresh water and allow to dry. Fabrics may be treated with a fabric protector such as ‘Scotchguard’ for additional protection.

Soiling can be minimised by simply brushing off dirt before it becomes embedded in the fabric or spot cleaning soon after stains occur. To clean umbrella canopies and beach shelters, lightly brush the fabric with a mixture of mild detergent and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and leave the umbrella or shelter open until completely dry.
